How this calculator works
- Paid hours are your weekly hours across 52 weeks.
- Worked hours remove your paid holiday, which raises the effective rate for hours actually worked.
- The net figures run the salary through the full deduction calculation first, then divide.
Assumptions
- A paid year is treated as 52 weeks.
- Holiday days are treated as paid, so they reduce hours worked without reducing pay.
- You are aged under State Pension age and pay Class 1 employee National Insurance where relevant.
- You have the standard tax code with no adjustments, restrictions or underpayments carried forward.
- Income is spread evenly across the tax year, so no month-by-month PAYE smoothing effects are modelled.
- No other taxable income, taxable benefits in kind, salary sacrifice arrangements or Marriage Allowance transfers are included unless entered.
- Pension contributions are treated as a net pay (salary sacrifice equivalent) deduction taken before income tax is applied.
Limitations
- Unpaid breaks, shift premiums, on-call time and rounded rota hours are not modelled.
- National Minimum and Living Wage compliance is not checked here.
